Committees
In order to carry out all the projects that Kiwanis is involved with throughout the year, each member is asked to join one or more committees.

Budget Committee
Conley, Christopher
The committee is responsible for working with the Treasurer and President-Elect to formulate a balanced budget. Once the budget is prepared the committee will provide proper notification to the general membership and then the budget will be voted on for approval.
Contribution Request Review Committee The committee will review all requests for contributions that are received by the club. The committee will evaluate whether or not they feel the contribution is in line with the club’s mission. After determining with the treasurer if there are funds available in the budget, they will present the request to the board for approval.
Fundraising Committee
Leavitt, Marie
This committee has a lot of responsibility and is chaired by the club’s President-Elect. The life blood of the club is its ability to raise funds each year which will be used to fund next year’s programs. Without successful fundraising the club will not be able to meet its commitment to the community. The committee is responsible for the following events: Peanut Sales, Pasta Day, Golf Tournament, Grinder Sale
Golf Tournament Committee
Elak, Kevin
The committee is responsible for scheduling the tournament and the meals with the golf club, obtaining sponsors, registering members/nonmembers to play in the tournament. The committee is also responsible for setting up and taking down the tee and green sponsor signs when required and coordinating the various raffles.
Holiday Food Baskets
Warner, William
The committee is responsible for working with the Middletown Holiday Basket Co-coordinator (from Liberty Bank). This may entail attending the groups meetings, communicating our number of baskets anticipated for donation with the coordinator, signing up members to provide baskets or donations in advance for committee members to buy items to make baskets. This committee is responsible for providing the number of complete baskets to the Salvation Army in coordination with the Middletown Holiday b
House Committee The committee is responsible for informing the restaurant of our expected attendance numbers as well as weeks without meetings or when they will be at alternate locations. The committee is also charged with setting up and cleaning up the weekly meetings, as well as the maintenance of any club plaques.
Inter-Club Committee The committee is responsible for coordinating with the other club’s in our division to schedule various club members to attend the meetings of other clubs.
Key Club Committee
Nocera, Karen
The coordinator serves as the liaison between our club and the high school Key Clubs. The coordinator or his/her assisting club member should attend Key Club meetings and then report back to the club what the Key Club is doing, any concerns (such as members not paying dues, etc.) and if they need any help from us. The committee should invite Key Club members to attend some of our weekly meetings. Remember today’s Key Clubbers are tomorrow’s Kiwanis members.
Member Directory
Salafia, Linda
The committee is responsible for updating the club directory in the beginning of September so that the new version is ready for the start of the club year on October 1st. The committee ensures that the directory contains the most up to date contact information for existing and new members. The committee also coordinates the printing of the directory with the printer and distributes the directories to the membership.
Membership Committee The committee is responsible for working with non committee members to locate potential members for the club. The committee will communicate with the potential new members, explain the club to them, answer any questions and assist with the initiation process. After the new members are in the club, the committee will work with the new members and get them involved in club events and programs so as to make them a part of the club.
Nominating Committee The committee is responsible for nominating club members to be officers and board members for the next club fiscal year.
Pasta Day
Leavitt, Marie
The committee is responsible for renting the hall at First Church, distributing tickets to members to sell, organizing the raffle and silent auction, ordering the food and supplies, as well as scheduling members to assist with the fundraisers setup, operation and cleanup.
Peanuts & Other Good Stuff
Leavitt, Marie
The committee is responsible for ordering and providing information about the products for sale in the current year to the membership, taking orders from the membership for peanut products, ordering the products from the manufacturer as well as ensuring that members either pick up their orders upon arrival or delivering the products to the members. This committee is also responsible for contacting members who have not placed orders and encouraging them to participate in the fundraiser. The com
Program Committee The committee is responsible for scheduling the club’s weekly speakers (including the political candidates) and coordinating this schedule with the club President. This is done through utilizing the committee’s own contacts in the community as well as by coordinating with other members of the club.
Public Information Committee The committee is responsible for disseminating information about the club and its activities to the membership as well as to the community at large. The committee is also responsible for taking pictures of various club functions/programs for inclusion in the newsletter. The committee is also responsible for contacting the local newspapers to report information about club programs.
Scholarship Committee Responsible for coordinating the event. This includes informing the schools of the scholarship criteria, obtaining the names of the scholarship recipients, school officials and parents that will be attending the event. The committee is also responsible for preparing the program brochure for the event. The committee will coordinate with the printer to have any certificates prepared.
Social Media Committee The committee will make sure that the website and club Facebook page are up to date with current information about the club’s activities and service projects. The committee will be responsible for updating the photos on the various pages of the site and make sure that the calendar is current.
Telephone Committee The committee will be responsible for making phone calls to members who do not have email or who have not been attending the regular weekly meetings.
Val-Sal Program Committee The committee is responsible for coordinating the event. This includes contacting the high schools in Middletown to obtain the names of award recipients, the names of any school officials and parents that will be attending the program. The committee will also coordinate with the printer to have the certificates prepared and framed or ordered from Kiwanis International when available.
Warm The Children Committee
Baldoni, Lynn
The committee is responsible for coordinating with local schools and social service organizations to obtain referrals for families in need in Middletown and the surrounding towns that the program serves. The committee is responsible for collecting, recording and depositing donations, scheduling club members & other volunteer shoppers to shop with families, sending acknowledgements of donations to all donors, coordinating the advertising support from The Middletown Press and The Chronicle newspapers.
Young Children Priority One Committee The committee is responsible for organizing the annual bicycle safety fair (Bike Rodeo). This includes coordinating with Pedal Power to enlist their help at the Rodeo. The committee is responsible for ensuring that we have enough program materials (helmets, flyers, brochures, registration forms, certificates, etc.). The committee is also responsible for advertising the event to the local schools. Any other programs put on by the club that pertain to young children also fall under this committe
Zlockhower & Palmer Fund Committee
Romanow, Marc
The committee is responsible for evaluating requests received for distributions from these funds and obtaining any necessary approvals from the appropriate family members. The committee will also present the request to the board for approval.
